Walking
From central Wanaka, start at the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 103 Ardmore Street. Head east on Ardmore Street towards the lake, then turn left onto the lakeside pathway. Follow the pathway along the lake for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with the Mount Aspiring Road. Turn right onto Mount Aspiring Road and continue for approximately 3 km until you reach the Lake Hayes Estate area. Look for signs directing you to the Lake Hayes Walkway, which will be on your left.

Rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Wanaka, such as 'Wanaka Bike Tours'. Start from the shop and head towards the Wanaka Lakefront. Follow the lakeside path heading east until you reach the junction with Mount Aspiring Road. Turn right onto Mount Aspiring Road and bike for approximately 3 km. Keep an eye out for signage for Lake Hayes Walkway on your left.

From Wanaka town center, head to the bus stop located near the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre. Take the bus that heads towards Queenstown, specifically one that stops at Lake Hayes Estate. Inform the driver of your destination, Lake Hayes Walkway. Once you arrive, disembark at the Lake Hayes Estate stop, and follow the signs to the Lake Hayes Walkway entrance, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
