Start at the center of Wanaka, preferably at the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 103 Ardmore Street. From the i-SITE, head south on Ardmore Street towards the lake. Continue walking along the lakefront, enjoying the views, until you reach the intersection with Dungarvon Street. Turn left onto Dungarvon Street and walk until you reach the intersection with Cardrona Valley Road (SH 6).

Continue straight on Cardrona Valley Road, following the footpath along the road. After approximately 1.5 kilometers, you will reach the roundabout at the junction with Albert Town. Here, take the exit onto Albert Town-Lake Hawea Road.

Follow Albert Town-Lake Hawea Road for about 800 meters until you see Hikuwai Drive on your right. Turn onto Hikuwai Drive, and continue walking straight. You will see the entrance to the Lake Wānaka Outlet Track on your left after a short distance. The track begins near 23 Hikuwai Drive.
