Getting There

    From the center of Gatlinburg, head east on Parkway toward the traffic light at the intersection with East Pkwy. Continue walking straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on your left. Enter the park and follow the signs toward the Alum Cave Trailhead. The trailhead is about 2 miles from the entrance and will be on your right.

    If you prefer not to walk, you can take the Gatlinburg Trolley. Board the trolley at any of the trolley stops located throughout Gatlinburg. Look for the red and yellow trolleys that operate frequently. Take the trolley that stops at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Get off at the stop closest to the Alum Cave Trailhead (check the trolley map for the correct stop). From there, it’s a short walk to the trailhead.

  • Biking

    Rent a bike from one of the local bike rental shops in Gatlinburg. Start at the rental shop and bike east on Parkway until you reach the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, approximately 0.5 miles. Once you enter the park, follow the signs to the Alum Cave Trailhead, which is about 2 miles from the entrance. There will be a designated parking area for bikes near the trailhead.
