Getting There

Public Transit
Start at The Dalles Transit Station located at 311 E 2nd St, The Dalles, OR 97058. From there, take the Columbia Area Transit (CAT) bus route that travels towards Lyle, WA. Make sure to check the CAT schedule for the latest departure times. After approximately 30-40 minutes, you will arrive at the stop nearest to Columbia Hills Historical State Park. Please inform the driver you would like to get off at the stop for the park entrance.

Begin your bike ride at the Columbia River Gorge Discovery Center located at 5000 Discovery Dr, The Dalles, OR 97058. Head east along the waterfront path until you reach the Hood River Bridge. Cross the bridge into Washington. Once across, follow WA-14 east for about 10 miles. You will find the entrance to Columbia Hills Historical State Park on your right. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all bike safety rules.

Walking directly to Columbia Hills Historical State Park from The Dalles is quite a long trek and may not be advisable. However, if you choose to walk, begin at the center of The Dalles, near the Wasco County Courthouse. Head east on E 3rd St, then continue onto E 2nd St. Follow the road until you reach the intersection with WA-14. At this point, you will need to follow WA-14 for approximately 10 miles. This route will take you through scenic areas, but be aware of the traffic on the highway.
