Car
If you are driving from Leh, Ladakh, take the NH 1D road towards Kargil. After approximately 160 km, you will reach the town of Skardu. From Skardu, follow the signs towards the Katpana Desert, which is about 10 km from the city center. The drive will offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Ensure you have a reliable GPS or map as the roads can be challenging in some areas.
Public Transportation
From Leh, you can take a bus to Skardu. Buses are available daily from the Leh bus station. The journey takes about 14-16 hours, so be prepared for a long trip. Once in Skardu, you can hire a local taxi or take a shared jeep to Katpana Desert, which is about a 20-minute drive from the Skardu city center. Make sure to confirm the fare in advance; taxi fares to Katpana typically range from 500 to 1000 PKR.
Taxi
If you are in Skardu, hiring a taxi is a convenient option to reach Katpana Desert. You can find taxis near the Skardu bus station or ask your hotel to arrange one for you. The ride will take approximately 20 minutes. Discuss and agree on the fare beforehand, which should be around 500 to 1000 PKR.
