Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Setúbal train station, exit the station and turn left onto Avenida Luísa Todi. Walk straight for about 500 meters until you reach the waterfront. Continue along the waterfront promenade for another 1 km. You will pass by Praça do Brasil and can enjoy the views of the river. Once you reach the end of the promenade, turn right onto Rua do Comércio and follow it until you reach the main square, Praça do Bocage. From there, head towards Avenida 5 de Outubro, then follow the signs for the bus terminal. Take bus number 1 to Lisboa. The bus will take you directly to Praça da Estrela, where the Basilica is located.

Bus
From Setúbal, head to the Setúbal bus terminal located near the city center. Look for the bus lines that go to Lisbon. You can take the bus operated by Rede Expressos or another local service that goes to Lisbon. The bus ride will take approximately 50 minutes. Once you arrive at the bus station in Lisbon, follow the signs to the closest metro station (São Sebastião). From there, take the metro on the red line towards 'Aeroporto'. Change at the next station (Marquês de Pombal) to the blue line and head towards 'Santa Apolónia'. Get off at the 'Rato' station. From Rato, it's a 10-minute walk to Praça da Estrela. Just follow Rua de São Bento until you reach the Praça da Estrela.

Train
If you prefer taking the train, go to the Setúbal train station and catch a train heading towards Lisbon (Cais do Sodré). The journey will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Cais do Sodré station, exit and head towards Rua do Arsenal. From there, you can either walk or take tram 28. If walking, make your way to Praça do Comércio, then walk up Rua da Prata, which leads to Chiado. At Chiado, switch to Rua Garrett and continue until you reach the Largo do Camões. From there, follow the signs to Praça da Estrela, which is about a 30-minute walk, or take tram 28 to get closer.
