From Târgu Jiu, head to the Târgu Jiu Bus Station (Autogara Târgu Jiu). You can take a bus to Novaci, which is a nearby town. Buses typically depart every hour. Make sure to check the schedule at the station or online. The journey will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Novaci, you will need to find a local minibus or taxi that can take you to the start of Transalpina, which is about 15 kilometers away. Ask the driver to drop you off at DN67C, the main road leading to Transalpina.

From anywhere in Târgu Jiu, you can call a taxi to take you directly to Transalpina. Make sure to agree on the price beforehand. The drive will take about 2 hours as it’s approximately 70 kilometers to the starting point of Transalpina. Provide the address DN67C to the driver, and they will know where to take you.

Bicycle
For the adventurous, renting a bicycle in Târgu Jiu can be a great option. Start your journey by heading west on Strada 14 Octombrie. Follow this road until you reach DN67. You will need to navigate through some traffic, so be cautious. Once you reach DN67, turn left and continue cycling towards Novaci. The total distance is about 70 kilometers, and it may take around 4-5 hours depending on your cycling speed and breaks. Make sure to take plenty of water and snacks for the trip.
