Getting There

  • Car

    Start your journey from the main entrance of Gishwati-Mukura National Park. Head southeast on the main road towards the town of Rubavu. The drive takes about 1.5 hours, covering approximately 50 kilometers. Once you reach Rubavu, follow the signs towards Goma, which is just across the border in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Be sure to have your passport ready for border control, as there may be a small fee for crossing. After crossing the border, continue on Avenue de la Paix in Goma, and you will arrive at Plage du Peuple, which is located along the lakeshore.

  • Public Transportation

    From Gishwati-Mukura National Park, take a public minibus (commonly known as 'taxi-brousse') towards Rubavu. The journey will take about 1 hour and will cost around 1,500 Rwandan Francs. Upon reaching Rubavu, look for a minibus heading to Goma. The fare should be about 2,000 Rwandan Francs. Ensure you tell the driver you want to go to Plage du Peuple. After crossing the border into Goma, disembark at the nearest point to Avenue de la Paix and walk towards the beach, which is just a short distance away.
