Getting There

  • Public Bus

    Start at Nyagatare Bus Station, which is located in the center of Nyagatare town. Look for buses heading to Kayonza or Rwamagana. The buses are usually marked with their destination. The fare is typically around 1,000 RWF. The journey will take about 30 to 45 minutes. Ask the bus conductor to drop you off at the Akagera National Park entrance, which is well-known among locals. Once you arrive at the entrance, you can pay for your entry and arrange for a park guide or vehicle.

  • Motorbike Taxi (Boda Boda)

    Find a boda boda stand, which are common throughout Nyagatare. Negotiate the fare with the driver; it should be around 3,000 to 5,000 RWF based on your negotiation skills. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to ask the driver to take you directly to the Akagera National Park entrance. You can also request that they wait for you if you plan to explore the park for a few hours.
