Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from the Nyungwe Forest National Park headquarters located in Kitabi. From there, take the road that leads towards Uwinka Visitor Center. After about 2 kilometers, look for signs directing you to the Runukangoma Valley. Continue on this road for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the dam area. You may need to navigate some rough terrain, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Be sure to follow any directional signs along the way.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Runukangoma Valley Dam using public transport, start from the Nyungwe Forest National Park headquarters. Take a local bus or shared taxi heading towards Gisakura. Once you reach Gisakura (about 10 kilometers away), ask for a motorcycle taxi (commonly known as 'moto') to take you to the dam. The moto ride will take about 30 minutes and may cost around 2,000 RWF (Rwandan Francs). Ensure you agree on the fare before starting the ride.
