Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from any location within Angostura Recreation Area, first head north on SD-79 towards Hot Springs. Continue on SD-79 for approximately 25 miles until you reach the junction with US-18. Turn left onto US-18 East and continue for about 8 miles. Merge onto I-90 East and travel for about 50 miles. Take exit 267 for SD-34 East towards Pierre. Follow SD-34 East for approximately 30 miles until you reach Pierre. Once in Pierre, follow signs for LaFramboise Island State Nature Area, located at LaFramboise Island Trail. The total drive time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Make sure to have a map or GPS for real-time directions.

• Public Transportation

  Unfortunately, direct public transportation options to LaFramboise Island State Nature Area from Angostura Recreation Area are limited. You will first need to get to a larger city with bus services, such as Rapid City. From Rapid City, you can take a Greyhound or similar bus service to Pierre. Once in Pierre, you may need to use a taxi or rideshare service to reach LaFramboise Island State Nature Area located at LaFramboise Island Trail. • Bicycle

  For the adventurous cyclist, you can bike from Angostura Recreation Area to LaFramboise Island State Nature Area. This route is approximately 60 miles and will take you through scenic South Dakota landscapes. Start by heading north on SD-79, then follow the same route as if you were driving towards Pierre. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited stops along the way. Depending on your cycling speed, this could take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours.
