From Mount Rushmore National Memorial, exit the main parking area and head southwest on SD-244. Continue walking for approximately 1.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Iron Mountain Road (SD-16A). Turn left onto Iron Mountain Road and walk for another 0.5 miles. You will see signs for Iron Mountain Picnic Area. Follow the signs to the picnic area entrance, which will be on your left.
