From the center of Pierre, head east on East Dakota Avenue towards South Washington Avenue. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with South Pierre Street. Turn left onto South Pierre Street and walk for another 0.3 miles. You'll reach the intersection with Fort Chouteau Road. Turn right onto Fort Chouteau Road, and the Fort Pierre Chouteau National Historic Landmark will be on your left after approximately 0.4 miles.

Starting from the Pierre City Park, head south on South Pierre Street. Continue straight for about 1 mile until you reach Fort Chouteau Road. Turn right onto Fort Chouteau Road and bike for about 0.4 miles. The landmark will be on your left. This route is primarily flat and offers a scenic view along the river.
