History of Yeongnam Region

The Yeongnam Region is historically significant as the heart of the ancient Silla Kingdom, which unified the Korean Peninsula in 668 AD. The capital of Silla, Gyeongju, is often referred to as 'the museum without walls' due to its rich collection of archaeological sites, including royal tombs, Buddhist temples, and stone pagodas.
Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a prominent cultural landmark in the Yeongnam Region. Constructed in 774 AD during the Silla Dynasty, this temple complex is renowned for its intricate architecture and serene beauty. It houses the famous Dabotap and Seokgatap pagodas, along with numerous other national treasures.
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Seokguram Grotto is an artificial cave temple located on Tohamsan Mountain.
