From the city center of Bilbao, head to the Termibus (Bilbao's main bus station) located at Gurtubay Kalea, 1. You can take Metro Line 1 (the 'Basque' line, red line) from any station to 'San Mamés' and then walk to Termibus. Once at Termibus, look for buses heading to Bermeo. The company 'Bizkaibus' operates this route. Buses to Bermeo run regularly, approximately every 30 minutes. The journey takes about 50 minutes. Once you arrive in Bermeo, disembark at the main bus station, then follow the signs towards 'Puerto Viejo' which is a short 10-minute walk down the waterfront.

Train and Bus
From Bilbao, you can also catch a train to the town of Gernika from the Atxuri train station. Take the Euskotren, which is accessible via the Metro (Line 1 to 'San Mamés', then transfer to the tram or walk to Atxuri). The train ride to Gernika takes about 30 minutes. After arriving in Gernika, exit the train station and catch a Bizkaibus (Line A3622) to Bermeo. The bus ride from Gernika to Bermeo will take approximately 30 minutes. Once in Bermeo, follow the signs to Puerto Viejo, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
