If you are driving from Kandy, head east on the A1 highway. After approximately 90 kilometers, take the A11 exit towards Polonnaruwa. Continue on the A11 for about 60 kilometers until you reach Polonnaruwa. Once in the city, follow the signs for the Ancient City, which will lead you to Sudarshanarama Puranagama Rd. The entrance to Polonnaruwa Ancient City is located at coordinates 7.9459425, 81.0003294. Parking is available nearby, and you may incur a parking fee of about 100 LKR.

Public Bus
To reach Polonnaruwa from Kandy by public transport, head to the Kandy Bus Station and catch a bus heading to Polonnaruwa. The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours and costs around 150-300 LKR depending on the bus type. Once you arrive at the Polonnaruwa Bus Station, you can take a tuk-tuk or a local bus to the Ancient City, which is about 5 kilometers away. The tuk-tuk fare is around 200 LKR.

From Kandy, you can take a train to Gal Oya Junction. After arriving at Gal Oya Junction, hire a tuk-tuk to Polonnaruwa Ancient City. The train journey takes about 2.5 hours and costs around 100-250 LKR. The tuk-tuk ride from Gal Oya Junction to Polonnaruwa will cost approximately 500 LKR, and the travel time is around 30 minutes.
