If you're driving, head towards Somapura. Mavil Aru Anicut is located at the coordinates 8.2483602, 81.2846366. From the center of Anuradhapura, take the A9 highway towards Trincomalee. After about 25 kilometers, turn onto the A12 highway towards Batticaloa. After approximately 15 kilometers, look for signs indicating Somapura. Follow the local roads leading to the coordinates. Parking is available near the site, but ensure to check for any local parking fees.

If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Anuradhapura to Batticaloa. Buses are frequent and take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach Batticaloa, transfer to a local bus heading to Somapura. Inform the bus driver you are heading to Mavil Aru Anicut; they will usually drop you off at the nearest point. From there, it may require a short walk (about 1 kilometer) to reach the Anicut. Bus fares will vary, so keep about 300 LKR for the Anuradhapura to Batticaloa leg and approximately 100 LKR for the local bus to Somapura.
