Getting There

  • Bicycle

    If you are in Moshi town, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops. Start by heading north on Uhuru Street, then take a left onto Sokoine Road. Continue until you reach the junction with the B1 highway. Turn right onto the B1, which will lead you out of the town. After about 5 kilometers, look for a sign for Materuni on your left. Follow the road signs; the trek start point is about 2 kilometers off the highway.

  • Walking

    For those who prefer to walk, you can start from the center of Moshi. Head north on Uhuru Street, then take a right onto Sokoine Road. Walk straight until you reach the B1 highway. From there, you can use the side of the road to walk towards Materuni. It's a long walk (approximately 7 kilometers), so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.

  • Public Minibus (Dala Dala)

    To reach Materuni via public transport, head to the Dala Dala station in Moshi town, located near the main market. Look for a Dala Dala heading towards Marangu. Once you board, inform the conductor that you want to stop at Materuni. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. After you get off, you may need to walk about 15 minutes along the dirt path to reach the trekking starting point.

    You can hire a motorbike taxi (Boda Boda) from Moshi town. Simply approach a Boda Boda driver and inform them you want to go to Materuni.
