Travel Guide to The Northern Most of Thailand

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from any city in Northeastern Thailand, you can reach The Northern Most of Thailand located at 361 Phahonyothin Rd, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. Start by getting onto Route 1 (Phahonyothin Road) which leads directly to Chiang Rai. From Udon Thani, the distance is approximately 270 km. Follow Route 1 north towards Chiang Rai, then continue onto Route 1 until you reach Mae Sai. Look for signs indicating Mae Sai; you will eventually reach the main road where The Northern Most is located. There are tolls along this route totaling around 100-200 THB depending on your exact path and vehicle type. Parking is available near The Northern Most.

• Bus

  For public transportation, take a bus from major cities in Isan such as Udon Thani or Khon Kaen to Chiang Rai. Buses leave regularly and the journey can take approximately 6-7 hours. Once you arrive at the Chiang Rai bus terminal, look for local buses or songthaews heading to Mae Sai. The fare for the local bus to Mae Sai is about 50-100 THB. Ensure to confirm the bus schedules as they can vary. Once you reach Mae Sai, The Northern Most is located on Phahonyothin Rd, which is a short walk from the bus station.

• Train and Bus

  You can take a train from Udon Thani to Chiang Mai, which is a scenic route. Trains run frequently, and the journey takes around 10 hours. After arriving in Chiang Mai, head to the Arcade Bus Station and take a bus to Chiang Rai. After reaching Chiang Rai, catch a local bus to Mae Sai. The total cost for this trip would be approximately 600-800 THB for the train and another 100-150 THB for the bus to Mae Sai. Once in Mae Sai, The Northern Most is a brief walk from the bus station.
