Experience Mabira Central Forest Reserve

Getting There

  • Car

    From Jinja town center, head northwest on Main Street towards the Jinja-Kamuli Road (A-109). Continue on A-109 for about 20 kilometers. You will pass through several small towns and villages. After approximately 20 minutes, look for a sign indicating 'Mabira Forest' on your right. Turn right onto the Mabira Forest access road. Follow this road for another 10 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Mabira Central Forest Reserve, which is well marked. There may be a small entrance fee of around UGX 5,000.

  • Public Transportation

    From Jinja town, head to the main taxi park and take a taxi heading to Kampala. Inform the driver that you want to stop at Mabira Forest. The taxi will drop you off at the Mabira Forest junction, which is about 30 kilometers from Jinja. From the junction, you can either walk or hire a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you to the entrance of Mabira Central Forest Reserve, which is approximately 10 kilometers away. Expect to pay around UGX 3,000 for the boda-boda ride.
