Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, Pen-y-Pass is located at approximately 53.08043 latitude and -4.02135 longitude. From the A5 road, look for the signposts for Pen-y-Pass, which is near the town of Caernarfon. Take the A4086 towards Llanberis, passing through the village of Capel Curig. After about 4 miles, you'll see signs for Pen-y-Pass. The car park here can fill up quickly, so it’s advisable to arrive early in the day. The parking fee is around £5 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Pen-y-Pass by public transport, take a train to Bangor or Llanberis. From Bangor, you can catch a bus (the T1 or T2 service) towards Caernarfon or Beddgelert, which stops near Pen-y-Pass. The bus fare is usually around £4-£6 one way. If you are starting from Llanberis, there are local buses that run to Pen-y-Pass but check the local schedules as they can vary. Be sure to plan your return trip as the bus services may be less frequent in the evening.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from nearby towns such as Llanberis or Caernarfon. This is a more costly option, with fares potentially ranging from £15 to £30 depending on your starting location. Taxis can be booked in advance or hailed from taxi ranks in these towns.

• Hiking Trails

  For the adventurous, consider hiking to Pen-y-Pass from nearby locations. If you're in Llanberis, you can take the Llanberis Path to Snowdon, which will lead you to Pen-y-Pass. The hike is challenging and can take around 6-8 hours, so ensure you are well-prepared with ample supplies.
