Getting There

Walking
From the entrance of the Vatican Necropolis, head towards the main exit of St. Peter's Basilica. As you exit, you will find yourself at the large open area known as St. Peter's Square. Walk straight ahead, passing the magnificent basilica on your left. Continue walking until you reach the end of the square, where you will see the impressive colonnades designed by Bernini. At the far end of the square, turn right onto Via della Conciliazione. Keep walking down this road, and after about a 10-minute walk, you will reach P.za Madama, a charming square with beautiful surroundings.

If you are at the Vatican Museums, exit the museums and head towards the entrance of the Vatican City. Once you are outside, turn left and walk towards the main entrance of St. Peter's Basilica. After arriving at St. Peter's Basilica, follow the directions to St. Peter's Square as noted above, and then proceed to P.za Madama by walking along Via della Conciliazione.
