A Barrier-Coast Landscape

Sandbridge developed on the barrier-island landscape south of the main Virginia Beach resort area, where shifting sands, dunes, maritime vegetation and Back Bay shaped land use for generations. Improved road access along Sandbridge Road made the remote southern beachfront more practical for permanent homes and seasonal retreats.
