History of Wheeling

Wheeling was officially established in 1769 by Colonel Ebenezer Zane. It was originally part of the Colony of Virginia before becoming a key city in the state of West Virginia. The early settlement was strategically important due to its location along the Ohio River, which served as a crucial route for western expansion.
