• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by entering the main roads in Northern Highland. Depending on your starting point, head towards US-51 and follow signs for I-39 S. Once you reach the junction, take I-39 S towards Libertyville. After about 30 miles, take exit 14B toward IL-120 W. Continue on IL-120 W for about 5 miles. Turn left onto W Buckley Rd, and after 1.5 miles, you will reach Independence Grove Forest Preserve, located at 16400 W Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL 60048.

• Public Transportation

  For public transportation, start at the nearest bus stop in Northern Highland. Take the bus route that goes towards Libertyville, which may require a transfer at a major hub such as the Round Lake Beach Metra Station. From there, take the Metra train towards Chicago Union Station and get off at the Libertyville stop. Upon arrival, you can take a local taxi or rideshare service to Independence Grove Forest Preserve. It’s about a 10-minute ride, and you should expect to pay around $10-$15 for the taxi fare.

  If you prefer biking, there are several scenic routes from Northern Highland to Independence Grove. Start by finding a bike-friendly path that leads you towards IL-120. Once you are on IL-120 W, follow it for approximately 5 miles until you reach W Buckley Rd. Turn left onto W Buckley Rd and continue for another 1.5 miles. Note that biking alongside the road may require caution, and ensure you wear a helmet and have reflective gear.
