Travel Guide to Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway

Getting There

• Car

  If you are already in Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, you can reach the Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway by car. Start by heading east on US-191 from the main visitor center. After approximately 15 miles, look for the turn onto UT Hwy 44. Follow UT Hwy 44 as it winds through stunning landscapes for about 10 miles until you arrive at the junction with US Hwy 191. The Scenic Byway is well-marked and provides beautiful views of the surrounding area, including the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

• Public Transportation

  Currently, public transportation options are limited in the Flaming Gorge area. However, if you are staying in Manila, UT, you can take a local taxi or ride-sharing service to the beginning of the Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway. The fare may vary, but expect to pay approximately $20-$30 for a one-way trip to the scenic byway. Be sure to arrange for a return trip, as services may not be readily available.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, biking is a great way to experience the Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway. From the Flaming Gorge Visitor Center, head east on US-191 and then take UT Hwy 44. The route is approximately 20 miles long from the visitor center to the scenic byway and is suitable for experienced cyclists. Remember to wear a helmet, carry water, and be aware of traffic, especially on US-191.

• Walking

  Walking to the Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway is highly discouraged due to the distance and lack of pedestrian infrastructure. However, if you are in a nearby campground or park area, you can walk to the Scenic Byway within a few miles. Ensure you have proper footwear and a detailed map, as some paths may not be well-marked.
