What to expect
Elevador de Santa Justa
We start the tour going to the top of Santa Justa Lift, one of the icons of Lisbon, a beautiful Neogothic style lift built in XIX century by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard. The view from the top allows us to see all Lisbon downtown, the castle and Lisbon Cathedral.
Mosteiro dos Jeronimos
After the lift we pass by chiado and along the river drive to Belém, the imperealist and more monumental part of Lisbon. We talk about the history of the portuguese discoveries by the sea and the important Navigators, like Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral. At this point we are going to visit the expectacular cathedral of Stª Maria de Belém, one of the most magnificent gothic cathedrals in Portugal.
Pastéis de Belém
Now is time to taste the famous portuguese "Pastel de Nata" a coustard tart served warm in this famous coffee shop that produces this product since 1837, following an old recipe from the monks that used to live next door.
Torre de Belem
Now is time to pass to the river side, by car, and head to Belém tower, another huge icon of Lisbon, and maximum expression of the portuguese arquitechture, the Manueline style
Padrao dos Descobrimentos
Following, we head to the amazing discoveries monument, a huge statue, built in 1940 to pay tribute to all the people involved in the discoveries era, definitely our golden era.
Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rei
After leaving Belém, we are also leaving Lisbon for a short period and head to the city of Almada, right there in the south margin of Tagus river. By the 25th of April bridge we arrive to this sanctuary, with the best and more panoramic view upon Lisbon (You can go to the top of the 100 m statue).
Pontal de Cacilhas
Now is time for lunch, we go to Cacilhas, the pier of Almada where you can get the best seafood in Lisbon and around.
Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco)
After lunch we return to Lisbon and head to Lisbon old town, along the river, we are passing by Alcântara, Santos neighborhood and Cais do Sodré square with its famous Time Out Market. Before climbing to the top of Graça hill we pass along Comercio Square, the biggest and most magnificent square in Lisbon, just next to the river.
Lisbon Cathedral
Leaving the river and going up the castle and Graça hill we pass by the Lisbon Cathedral, a Romanic building that was built on the XII century, becoming the oldest monument in Lisbon, still in use. Following on the way up to Graça, we pass by the sightseeing of Portas do Sol, just under the castle of Lisbon.
Miradouro Da Senhora Do Monte
When we reach the top of the hill of Graça we stop at Senhora do Monte viewpoint, to take advantage of all the beauty of the city spreading along the hills to the river.
Alfama
Last but not least, we park the car and take a walk around Alfama neighborhood, the oldest and more authentic in Lisbon. We can fell the authenticity of the place and understand the social context of hundreds of generations that passed and lived in this place. This is the place where Fado music was born. At the end of the walking we stop at Fado museum and the guide bring the car for the pick up.
