Driving
From Dadeville, travel south on AL Hwy 49. Turn right onto W. Lafayette St, then left onto Young's Ferry Road. Turn left onto Smith Mtn. Drive, then right onto Tower Road. Follow the brown signs to the parking lot at the base of Smith Mountain. From the parking lot, the Walker Bynum Smith Mountain Tower Trail leads to the tower. Parking is free.
Boating
Boaters on Lake Martin can access the Smith Mountain Fire Tower via the Sandy Creek area near Dadeville. Head towards coordinates 32°48'26.2"N 85°50'39.8"W. Look for pilings provided by Alabama Power Company to support the Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association dock. Tie up to the pilings and hike the marked trail to the tower. Docking is free, but space is limited.
