Discover more about W.A. Gayle Planetarium

The W.A. Gayle Planetarium, located in Oak Park, Montgomery, has been sparking imaginations since its opening on September 25, 1968. Named after former Montgomery Mayor William Armistead Gayle, the planetarium has evolved into a leading science education center in the Southeast. The planetarium boasts a 50-foot dome and a Super MediaGlobe II digital projection system, installed in 2014, which creates stunningly realistic simulations of the universe. This technology allows visitors to explore not only stars and planets but also phenomena like lightning, clouds, and auroras. The 159-seat theater offers full-dome movies on astronomy and planetary science, along with interactive presentations about the night sky and laser shows. Beyond the theater, the planetarium features exhibits such as a model of the Hubble Space Telescope and a black-light hallway depicting the history of astronomy. The W.A. Gayle Planetarium is operated by the Montgomery Zoo for the City of Montgomery. It offers public shows every Saturday and group reservations are available Tuesdays through Fridays.
