    Gjirokastra Old Town is best explored on foot. From most points within the city, head towards Rruga Gjin Bue Shpata, which leads directly into the heart of the Old Town. Be prepared for steep, cobblestone streets. Once in the Old Town, follow signs to the Gjirokastra Castle and other historical landmarks.

  • Public Transport

    If arriving in Gjirokastra by bus, the bus station is located down in the valley near the intersection of 18 Shtatori Street with the main Gjirokastër-Tepelenë road. From there, a public bus circuit connects the new town with the old town. The fare is approximately 30 Lekë. Alternatively, taxis are available from the bus station for around 200 Lekë.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available in Gjirokastra. A taxi from the city center to the Old Town should cost approximately 2.7 USD base fee, plus 2.5 USD per kilometer. A 5km ride in Gjirokaster costs about 15.2 USD. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. Taxis can also be hired for day trips to nearby attractions like the Blue Eye.

  • Driving

    If driving, be aware that parking in the Old Town is limited. There is an underground parking garage near the Old Town that costs approximately €2 for 3 hours. Private parking is also available for around 1000 Lek per day. It's recommended to park outside the Old Town and walk or take a taxi due to the steep, narrow streets.
