Getting There

  • Taxi

    From Bitola, taxis are readily available. A taxi to the park's information center costs approximately 400 MKD. Alternatively, a taxi to the entrance of the National Park near Magarevo costs around 200 MKD if booked in advance, but this option involves a longer walk. Taxi fare from Bitola to Dihovo village is about 120-140 MKD.

  • Car

    The best way to reach Pelister is by car from Bitola, via the villages of Trnovo and Magarevo. The drive takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes, covering a distance of 28 km. Parking is available in front of Hotel Molika, and the Information Center, free of charge.

Pelister National Park, established in 1948, is North Macedonia's first national park and a treasure trove of natural beauty. Situated in the Baba Mountain massif, the park spans 171.5 square kilometers and boasts a diverse landscape ranging from 927 to 2,601 meters above sea level. Named after its highest peak, Pelister (2,601m), the park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. The park's most distinctive feature is the five-needle Molika pine (Pinus peuce), a unique species of Cenozoic age found only on a few Balkan mountains. These ancient trees, some over 230 years old, create stunning forests and contribute to the park's rich biodiversity. Pelister is also home to two stunning glacial lakes, known as Pelister's Eyes, located at approximately 2,200 meters above sea level. The Big Lake and Small Lake are sources of many rivers and offer breathtaking views. Pelister offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. Numerous trails cater to different skill levels, from leisurely walks to challenging climbs to Pelister Peak. Popular trails include the hike to Pelister's Eyes and the First World War historical trail. The park is also known for its diverse wildlife, including bears, wolves, roe deer, and various bird species, making it a prime location for birdwatching. Beyond its natural wonders, Pelister holds historical and cultural significance, with remnants of past civilizations and WWI trenches found within its borders. Organized mountaineering activities date back to 1926, and the park has a long tradition of welcoming visitors to experience its pristine nature.
