Zekate House, also known as Kulla e Zekateve, is a prominent historical mansion in Gjirokastër, Albania, celebrated for its well-preserved Ottoman architecture. Constructed in 1811-1812 for Beqir Zeko, a general administrator under Ali Pasha, it exemplifies the traditional southern Albanian Tosk style of residential housing. The house is considered one of the grandest examples of Gjirokastër architecture in the Ottoman style. Fortified tower houses, known as 'kullë' in Albanian, were typical of wealthy families like government officials and merchants. Zekate House features a secure stone lower story and a wooden gallery with essential rooms for an extended family. Embrasures in the walls aided in defense. The house has two towers and a large double-arched facade. Inside, visitors can explore reception halls, living quarters, and storage areas, adorned with period-appropriate furniture and decorations. Highlights include painted ceilings with intricate frescoes of floral motifs, geometric patterns, and scenes from daily life. The main room is decorated with frescoed walls, a carved wooden ceiling, and an ornate fireplace. A wooden balcony at the top of the staircase overlooks the town.
