Discover more about “Lady Ermintrude” Fountain

The Lady Ermintrude Fountain, prominently located in the heart of Prescott's Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza, is more than just a beautiful water feature; it's a symbol of the city's enduring history and commitment to preserving its heritage. The cast iron statue that sits atop the fountain was first erected in 1910 and graced the Courthouse Plaza for over 60 years. Over time, the fountain fell into disrepair, and in 1976, it was carefully dismantled and placed in storage at the Sharlot Hall Museum. There it remained until 2016, when county officials recognized the upcoming centennial of the Yavapai County Courthouse and initiated a restoration project. The restoration involved a foundry in Alabama, Robinson Iron, that still had the original statue pattern. They recast the missing and broken pieces, while Yavapai County Facilities Department workers restored the basin to its original 1910 style. In June 2018, Lady Ermintrude was unveiled once again, standing as a proud reminder of Prescott's past for generations to come. The Yavapai County Courthouse, which the fountain adorns, was the original state capital of Arizona and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Today, the fountain serves as a central gathering place and a visual representation of Prescott's dedication to preserving its unique identity.
