Discover more about Saint Joe Historic Depot Museum

The Saint Joe Historic Depot Museum, located in St. Joe, Arkansas, offers a glimpse into the region's rich railroad and local history. The museum is housed in the original 1902 Missouri and North Arkansas (M&NA) Railroad depot, which served as a vital transportation hub for over four decades until its closure in 1946. After the M&NA ended its service, the depot served various purposes, including a church, classrooms for the local school, and a feed store. However, the building eventually fell into disrepair and became a community eyesore. Recognizing its historical significance, a concerned group initiated efforts to restore the depot in the early 21st century. Restoration began in 2009, and the museum officially opened in May 2011. Today, the museum features exhibits showcasing artifacts and photos related to the railroad and the surrounding area. Visitors can learn about the impact of the M&NA Railway on the local economy and the lives of the people who lived and worked in St. Joe. The museum also has a Civil War Sesquicentennial marker commemorating the Skirmish at Tomahawk, which took place nearby in 1864. The Saint Joe Historic Depot Museum stands as the only wood-frame station built by the railroad still standing in the state, and the only one still in its original spot in the county.
