Discover more about Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum

The Josephine Tussaud Wax Museum, located in the heart of Hot Springs, Arkansas, offers a fascinating glimpse into history and celebrity culture through its collection of over 100 wax figures. Founded in 1971, the museum is named after Josephine Tussaud, the great-great-granddaughter of Marie Tussaud, the founder of the world-famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London. However, the Hot Springs museum is not affiliated with the international chain. The museum is housed in the historic Southern Club building, dating back to 1893. This building once served as a gambling spot frequented by gangsters like Al Capone. Today, the museum features seven themed "Worlds of Wax," including historical figures, royalty, celebrities, and fantasy characters. Visitors can explore scenes like the Last Supper, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Mad Hatter's tea party. The museum also features a collection of gambling memorabilia and an escape tunnel used by gangsters. The wax figures themselves are crafted by Gems Wax Models of London, using beeswax, a secret chemical compound, and human hair imported from Italy. The eyes are made of optical glass from Germany, custom-made for each figure. The museum is open daily, offering a climate-controlled environment and a gift shop.
