Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, Harrison, AR. Head south on US-65 S for about 25 miles until you reach the junction with AR-74. Turn left onto AR-74 E and follow this road for approximately 9 miles. Look for the signs for the Buffalo National River and Compton. Continue on AR-74 until you reach Compton, AR. Once in Compton, park at the Compton Trailhead, which is the starting point for the hike to Hemmed-In Hollow Falls. The parking lot is free, but be sure to arrive early as it can fill up quickly on weekends.

Hiking
From the Compton Trailhead, take the Hemmed-In Hollow Trail, which is well-marked. The hike is about 3.5 miles one way and is rated as moderate to strenuous due to the steep sections and rocky terrain. Follow the trail as it descends toward the Buffalo River, and be prepared for some steep inclines and declines. Approximately halfway through your hike, you will cross a creek; ensure you have appropriate footwear as it can be slippery. Continue on the trail until you reach the base of Hemmed-In Hollow Falls. It’s advisable to bring water and snacks for the hike.

Public transportation options in the Ozark Mountains are limited. However, you can take a Greyhound bus to Harrison, AR. From Harrison, you would need to arrange for a taxi or a rideshare service to get to Compton. The taxi ride will take about 30 minutes and may cost around $30-$50, depending on the service. Once you reach Compton, you can proceed to the Compton Trailhead as described above. It’s important to note that public transportation schedules may vary, so it’s best to check in advance.
