Discover more about Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum

Nestled in the heart of the Lori region, in the village of Dsegh, the Hovhannes Tumanyan House-Museum invites visitors to step into the world of Armenia's beloved poet. Hovhannes Tumanyan, born in this very house in 1869, spent his formative years here, absorbing the essence of rural Armenian life that would later permeate his works. The house, built by Tumanyan's father in the 1860s, was transformed into a museum in 1939 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the poet's birth. The museum's collection comprises around 300 objects, offering insights into Tumanyan's life, literary career, and his significant role as a public figure. Explore the two-story house, which features six halls filled with exhibits. The first floor recreates the atmosphere of 19th-century rural life, displaying the poet's cradle, a traditional bakery, a large hearth, and other household items. The second floor showcases Tumanyan's personal belongings, including his bed, desk, and clothing, providing a more intimate connection to the poet. A bust of the writer stands in the courtyard, and a chapel holds his heart. The museum not only preserves Tumanyan's legacy but also serves as a cultural center, hosting annual Tumanyan Days, celebrations, and theatrical performances based on his fairy tales.
