Discover more about Wings of Tatev | Tatever

The Wings of Tatev is more than just a cable car; it's a breathtaking journey to Armenia's rich past. Stretching 5.7 kilometers (3.5 miles) over the Vorotan River Gorge, this aerial tramway is the longest reversible one in the world, a record recognized by Guinness World Records. Opened in October 2010, it was constructed by the Austrian-Swiss Doppelmayr Garaventa Group as part of the Tatev Revival Project. The ride itself is an experience, whisking you 320 meters (over 1,000 feet) above the ground in about 12 minutes. The cabins, each accommodating 30 passengers and a steward, offer panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the deep gorge below. As you glide through the air at 37 km/h (23 mph), an audio guide in Armenian, Russian, and English points out the sights. The journey culminates at the Tatev Monastery, a medieval complex perched on a plateau overlooking the gorge. The Tatev Monastery dates back to the 9th century and was once a vital center of learning and Armenian Apostolic Church. The complex includes three churches and other buildings that reflect its historical significance. The construction of the Wings of Tatev has not only made the monastery more accessible but has also contributed to the region's economic development. All profits from the cableway are invested in the restoration of the monastery and supporting local communities.
