Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Arevik National Park via public transport, take a minibus (marshrutka) from Goris to Vardanidzor. The marshrutka departs from the main bus station in Goris and costs about 500 AMD. From Yerevan Southern bus station to Goris, the bus fare is $47–69. Once in Vardanidzor, you can walk 2 km to the park entrance or take a local taxi for around 1000 AMD.

  • Car

    If traveling by car from Shikahogh State Reserve, head east towards the main road (M2). Follow the M2 road for approximately 17 km until you reach the turnoff for Vardanidzor. Turn onto the road leading to Vardanidzor (X7X6+9HM) and drive for about 10 km to the park entrance. There is no entrance fee, but parking may be limited.

  • Taxi

    From Meghri, the best way to get to Arevik National Park is by taxi. The taxi ride takes approximately 1 hour and 2 minutes and costs $8 - $10. Ensure to negotiate a price beforehand.

Arevik National Park, located in the southernmost part of Armenia, is a relatively new protected area, established in 2009 to safeguard the region's unique ecosystems. Spanning 34,402 hectares, the park encompasses a diverse range of landscapes, from semi-deserts and mountain steppes to alpine meadows and juniper woodlands. This varied terrain supports an extraordinary array of plant and animal life, making Arevik a true biodiversity hotspot. The park is home to over 150 species of butterflies, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Armenia, as well as over 180 species of birds, including endangered species like the Egyptian vulture and golden eagle. Mammal species include the Caucasian leopard, lynx, striped hyena, and the Bezoar goat. Visitors can explore the park's diverse landscapes on foot or horseback, discovering hidden waterfalls, ancient ruins, and panoramic viewpoints. While exploring the park, be aware of the presence of snakes, especially during warmer months. Camping is not permitted within the park, so plan to leave at dusk. The best time to visit Arevik National Park is during late spring and early fall, when the weather is ideal for hiking and wildlife watching.
