Discover more about Lake Daylesford Jetty & Bridge

Lake Daylesford, a jewel in the spa country of Victoria, is more than just a pretty body of water; it's a testament to community vision and a place steeped in history. Originally a creek valley fed by Wombat Creek and mineral springs, the area was a significant hunting and fishing ground for the Dja Dja Wurrung people before European settlement. The gold rush of the 1850s transformed the landscape, with mining activities leaving scars on the land. In 1893, a proposal was made to create a lake to beautify the area and mask the mining devastation. The vision was to establish a recreational lake and mineral springs reserve, enhancing Daylesford's reputation as a spa center. The lake was finally realized in 1929 when a dam was built across Wombat Creek. This project, designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the architect of Canberra, resulted in the creation of the ornamental Lake Daylesford. The opening of the lake in April 1930 was a significant event, celebrated with much fanfare. Today, Lake Daylesford is a hub of activity. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational pursuits, including swimming, boating, and fishing. The 'Peace Mile Walk,' a 2.8-kilometer track around the lake's perimeter, is popular for leisurely strolls. The lake is surrounded by picnic areas, BBQ facilities, and a playground, making it an ideal spot for families. The iconic jetty and bridge provide stunning views and photo opportunities, while the nearby mineral springs offer a taste of the region's renowned waters.
