Discover more about Fanicular

The Baku Funicular is more than just a mode of transport; it's an iconic symbol of Baku, offering a delightful ascent between the city's lower reaches and the elevated Highland Park. Since its opening on May 5, 1960, it has remained Azerbaijan's sole funicular system. It provides both locals and tourists a convenient and picturesque way to navigate the steep terrain. The funicular was designed to address Baku's unique topographical challenges, inspired by similar systems in Europe. The original carriages, delivered from Kharkiv, Ukraine, whisked passengers between stations rapidly. A major overhaul, completed in 2012, introduced new carriages, state-of-the-art mechanical and electronic equipment, and glass-encased stations. The ride itself is a visual treat, offering breathtaking views of the Caspian Sea, the Flame Towers, and Baku's ever-evolving skyline. As you ascend, the city unfolds beneath you, revealing a tapestry of architectural styles and vibrant urban life. At the upper station lies Highland Park, also known as Upland Park, one of Baku's most peaceful and beautiful spaces. From here, the panoramic views are even more expansive, encompassing the Baku TV Tower, Maiden Tower, and the bustling waterfront.
