The Azerbaijan State Museum of Art, also known as Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, stands as a beacon of the nation's rich cultural legacy and artistic prowess. Founded in 1936 in Baku, it was named after Rustam Mustafayev, a prominent Azerbaijani scenic designer and theater artist. The museum's collection includes over 15,000 artworks, encompassing paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and textiles. The museum is housed in two adjacent 19th-century buildings. The first building was constructed in 1893, designed by Nikolai von der Nonne. In 2013, a modern transition building, primarily made of glass and metal, was added to connect the two historical buildings and host contemporary art exhibitions. The museum's collection includes Azerbaijani art, as well as works from Western Europe, Russia, and the East. Exhibits include ancient art dating back to the 4th century BC, ceramics, metalware, miniatures, textiles, and carpets. The museum also has a library with approximately 9,000 scientific books and a collection of rare books. The museum organizes scientific lectures, excursions, and programs for families and children.
