Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Arevik National Park via public transport from Goris, take a minibus (marshrutka) to Vardanidzor from the main bus station for approximately 500 AMD. From Vardanidzor, you can walk 2 km to the park entrance or hire a local taxi for around 1000 AMD.

  • Car

    From the Shikahogh State Reserve, head east towards the main road (M2). Follow the M2 for about 17 km until the Vardanidzor turnoff. Turn onto the road to Vardanidzor (X7X6+9HM) and drive for 10 km to reach the park entrance. Note that parking may be limited. From Meghri, the drive to Arevik National Park is approximately 1 hour and 2 minutes.

  • Walking

    From the center of Vardanidzor, walk southeast on the main path towards the park entrance, following signs for approximately 2 km. The walk takes about 30 minutes.

Arevik National Park, established in 2009, is located in the Syunik region of southern Armenia, bordering Nakhchivan. This protected area spans 344 square kilometers and is known for its diverse landscapes, ranging from broadleaf forests and juniper woodlands to subalpine meadows and mountain steppes. The park plays a crucial role in protecting endangered species such as the Caucasian leopard, Armenian mouflon, and Mediterranean turtle. Visitors can explore a variety of hiking trails that cater to different skill levels, offering stunning views of the Caucasus Mountains and opportunities for wildlife watching. The park's unique geological features, including limestone formations and rocky outcrops, add to the scenic beauty. Arevik's location at the crossroads of Iranian, Anatolian, Caucasian, and Central Asian fauna makes it an ecologically significant destination. While exploring the park, visitors may encounter over 150 species of butterflies, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Armenia, as well as over 180 species of birds, including the Egyptian vulture and golden eagle. The park is also home to various mammals, including the lynx and striped hyena.
