Getting There

• Car

  From Thimphu, head towards Semtokha by taking the Thimphu-Semtokha highway (also known as the Norzin Lam). After reaching Semtokha, look for signs leading to Talakha Monastery. The last part of the journey is a steep ascent on a narrow road that may require a 4WD vehicle. The drive will take approximately 30-40 minutes from Thimphu.

• Public Transportation

  Take a local bus from the Thimphu bus terminal to Semtokha. Buses run frequently throughout the day and the fare is approximately 20 Nu. Once in Semtokha, you will need to hire a taxi or find a local guide for the final leg of the journey to Talakha Tashi Drukgyel Monastery, as public transport does not go directly to the monastery.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from anywhere in Thimphu. The taxi will drive you directly to Talakha Tashi Drukgyel Monastery, which is about 13 km from the city center. Taxi fares may range from 500 to 1000 Nu depending on your negotiation and the time of day. Ensure you agree on a price before starting the journey.

• Walking

  For the adventurous, hiking from Semtokha to Talakha Tashi Drukgyel Monastery is an option. The hike is steep and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear and carry plenty of water. The views along the way are stunning, but be prepared for a challenging trek.
