Located on the Morro do Leme, at the eastern end of Copacabana Beach, the Duque de Caxias Fort (also known as Forte do Leme) offers visitors a blend of military history and stunning panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro. Built in the late 18th century, the fort provides a unique vantage point to see Copacabana, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Guanabara Bay.

Getting There

Walking
From the eastern end of Copacabana Beach (Posto 6), walk along Avenida Atlântica towards Leme. Continue until you reach Praça Almirante Júlio de Noronha, where you'll find the entrance to the military area and the trail leading up to the fort. The hike up the cobblestone path takes approximately 20 minutes. There is a nominal fee to access the trail and fort.

Public Transport
From Cardeal Arcoverde Metro Station, take a bus (190, 472, or 523) to Leme. Get off at the end of the beach. Alternatively, walk from the metro station to Avenida Atlântica and head east along the beach promenade to Praça Almirante Júlio de Noronha. The entrance to the Duque de Caxias Fort will be visible from the promenade. Bus fare is around R$4.05.
