Discover more about Parque Natural Municipal Dois Irmãos - Dois Cariocas - Sérgio Bernardes e Alfredo Sirkis

Parque Natural Municipal Dois Irmãos, also known as Parque Penhasco Dois Irmãos, is a natural haven nestled in the Leblon neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. Created in 1992, the park spans nearly 40 hectares, offering a respite from the city with its lush greenery and panoramic views. The park's transformation into a conservation area marks a commitment to protecting the natural heritage of the South Zone. Historically, the area was used for sugarcane cultivation until the late 19th century. In the early 20th century, urbanization led to the development of Alto Leblon. However, environmental movements and community interest spurred reforestation efforts, leading to the park's creation. Today, the park's vegetation is in a secondary stage of ecological succession, with ongoing efforts to manage native species. The park boasts six mirantes (viewpoints) offering stunning vistas of Rio's iconic landmarks, including the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, and Christ the Redeemer. Visitors can explore botanical species like orchids and bromeliads, as well as animals like monkeys and various bird species. The park also features sculptures by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Visitors can enjoy leisurely picnics, explore hiking trails, and immerse themselves in the tranquility of this urban oasis. The park provides a vital corridor for urban biodiversity, offering a safe refuge for species adapted to the environment.
