Discover more about Auditório Ibirapuera - Oscar Niemeyer

The Auditório Ibirapuera, officially named Auditório Ibirapuera - Oscar Niemeyer since July 2014 , is a key building within Ibirapuera Park, designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Intended for musical performances and also functioning as a Brazilian popular music school, the auditorium enhances the park's rich cultural scene. Niemeyer originally conceived the building in the 1950s, but construction was delayed due to political and legal challenges, finally opening in October 2005. The auditorium's design features a simple, yet striking trapezoidal shape made of white-painted reinforced concrete, typical of Niemeyer's style. A distinctive red flame sculpture, called “Labareda,” marks the entrance, serving as an architectural logo. The venue can seat 800 people inside, but it also has a unique 20-meter wide door at the back of the stage that can be opened to accommodate up to 15,000 people for outdoor performances. The building also houses the Escola do Auditório in its subsoil, aiming to support new talent. Inside, the foyer features a winding ramp with a wooden handrail and a large red wave sculpture by Tomie Ohtake. The Auditório Ibirapuera is fully accessible, with elevators, wheelchair spaces, and special seating.
