Perched atop Morro Dona Marta, between the vibrant neighborhoods of Botafogo, Flamengo, Laranjeiras, and Cosme Velho, Heliponto Mirante Dona Marta stands as one of Rio de Janeiro's premier scenic viewpoints. At 364 meters above sea level, it offers an unparalleled vista of the city's most iconic landmarks. The location provides detailed views of Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain), the Christ the Redeemer statue, and the expansive Guanabara Bay. Originally, the site served as a small chapel for the Santa Marta favela. The construction of the Mirante gained momentum in the 1950s with the creation of the Variante Paineiras, which opened paths through the region to Corcovado. The helipad itself was inaugurated on May 11, 1991 and for a time offered panoramic helicopter flights over the city. While these flights are currently suspended from this location, the helipad still serves as an exceptional viewing platform. Visitors can easily reach the Mirante by car or public transportation, making it a convenient destination for all. The site is well-maintained with comfortable viewing areas. In addition to the main viewing platform, a short walk across the parking lot leads to the helipad, offering a different perspective of Christ the Redeemer. A visit here encapsulates the breathtaking beauty and vibrant atmosphere of Rio, providing a unique and memorable experience.
