Discover more about Magens Bay Beach

Magens Bay Beach, nestled on the north side of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, is celebrated as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. The bay features a nearly three-quarters of a mile stretch of white sand, embraced by the arms of Peterborg peninsula to the east and Tropaco Point to the west. Its calm, clear waters are ideal for swimming, wading, and relaxing, making it a favorite destination for both tourists and locals. Originally known as Great Northside Bay, it later adopted the name Magens Bay from its owners, the Magens family, between 1817 and 1898. In 1946, Arthur S. Fairchild donated a significant portion of the beach and surrounding land to the Municipality of St. Thomas and St. John, stipulating that it be preserved as a public park for all to enjoy without discrimination. Today, Magens Bay is managed by the Magens Bay Authority, a semi-autonomous entity that ensures the park's upkeep and preservation. The park boasts amenities such as restrooms, showers, picnic areas, a restaurant and bar, and equipment rentals. Visitors can also explore the Magens Bay Nature Trail, a scenic hike through a tropical forest. The bay is also known for its calm waters, which are home to diverse marine life, including turtles and rays.
