Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Carmel-by-the-Sea, head north on Ocean Avenue until you reach the junction with State Route 1. Turn left onto State Route 1 (also known as the Pacific Coast Highway) and continue walking for about 3 miles. You will pass through the scenic views of Carmel River State Beach and along the coastline. Once you reach the intersection with Reservation Road, continue straight on State Route 1. After approximately 1 mile, take the exit toward Marina. Follow the signs for Beach Range Road, and you will see Fort Ord Dunes State Park's parking lot on your right.

    From the central area of Carmel-by-the-Sea, walk to the nearest bus stop on Ocean Avenue. Take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Bus Line 1 towards Marina. Stay on the bus for about 30 minutes, and get off at the stop closest to Beach Range Road. From there, walk approximately 10 minutes down Beach Range Road to reach the parking lot of Fort Ord Dunes State Park. Make sure to check the local bus schedule for the most accurate times.
